Happy Father's Day Dan!

I know this is an old picture, since Emmy and Brodyn are a lot bigger now...and Sophia is missing in action, but I couldn't find any good pictures of Dan.  I'll have to remember to snap more pictures of both of us!!  I guess I'm usually taking pictures of the kids! Any way, this year I decided to surprise Dan for Father's day, because I seldom do and he is so important to us I thought I do something a little more special!  It didn't work, even with all my planning, he still ruined his surprise!  I was so frustrated, just once I wanted to get everything perfect and actually surprise him!

He has these bright red biking shoes, that I think he might of bought used.   He's had them since he started mtn. biking.  I thought it would be a fun surprise to get him some updated ones that weren't so bright and flashy!  So I spent what felt like an entire day researching biking shoes online, which was a little stressful seeing how I don't know the first thing about biking shoes!  Although now I think I've learned a thing or two!  I eventually ended up calling his older brother Jay to ask his advice and he convinced me to get the specialized tahoe multi shoe for biking and hiking!  Which he currently has and has really liked them.  After searching the internet yet again for the best possible deal, I finally found the ones I wanted and was ready to buy when I got a little stumped on what shoe size I should get.  Checking his closet didn't help because his shoes are either a 10 or 10.5 so I decided on the 10.5 which is a 44 European size in that brand.  However his original biking shoe was a different brand and said it was a 10 or 44 European.  The two brands were different in their sizing so finally I just texted Dan and asked his shoe size.  He said it was a 10.  I changed my mind and ordered the 43 size 10.  Later that evening he asked why I wanted his shoe size.  I fibbed and said because I had walked past his stinky sneakers and said I was going to watch for a sale and get him new ones.  Phew at this point it was still a surprise.

I made the mistake of not sending it to Tricia's house, because even though I was watching the tracking number, dang Fed Ex brought it a day earlier than expected and I was at work.  Dan got home with the kids, saw the package and of course opened it.  FOR THE LOVE! I had a stearn talking with him upon returning home and seeing the package had been open.  I said, "Dan, if your birthday, father's day or anniversary is just around the corner...don't open any packages!"  So there it was the surprise was ruined or so I thought.  When I asked him if he really saw what was in it, he said "perhaps." I told him what a headache it was trying to decide what to get and how I called Jay.  When he heard that he said, "Why did you call Jay?"  That was it I sealed my fate, he had thought they were just running shoes, but then quickly connected the dots after I said Jay helped me and figured out they were new biking shoes.  AHHHH!  To make things worse they were too small, and I had to send them back for a bigger size.  I'll have to think things through better the next time I try to surprise him!  I was so sad and frustrated it didn't work!  It started out as such a great idea!

Even though Father's Day didnt' turn out as I planned, I think he still had a good day!!  He is amazing!  A few days after we got to go to the pool.  I watched as he dove, splashed and dumped the kids in the water, and realized how important it is that kids have a father!  Dad's really know how to play.  At least our dad does.  He gets down with them at their level and really plays with them, wrestling, tickling, teasing, chasing...all those fun things kids love.  I realized what an important piece he is in our family puzzle, as I watched him swimming with our kids!  We love you dad you complete us!!
